About Us

Your connection to Ballast Mutual.

Bearing Risk connects qualified companies in the nuclear supply chain to Ballast Mutual—a mutual-owned insurance company that provides general liability, umbrella, pollution liability, and professional liability coverage.

Our Role

We serve vendors, equipment manufacturers, fabricators, engineering firms, technology manufacturers, and construction companies whose work is shaped by a strong safety culture and rigorous procedures. Their operations are subject to strict regulation and independent review by third parties including the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), ASME quality standards, the Nuclear Procurement Issues Committee (NUPIC), and the quality assurance programs of the utilities they support. That combination of oversight helps protect the safety of the nuclear supply chain.

A professional captive manager handles underwriting decisions. Bearing Risk is responsible for the organization of Ballast Mutual, its initial capitalization, member onboarding, and ongoing member satisfaction. We utilize the CaptiveSimple API to deliver the interface that customers and brokers experience for onboarding and renewals.
